Party Favor Ideas:Pen or Crayon holder for little notebooks

We made these for Big Sister's birthday party favor bag (link). While I stitched the loops, Sister inserted the notebooks and the crayons. It was a fun project together...

Here's the DIY step-by-step...

You need 2 lengths of elastic. The longer one measuring twice the width of the notebook, so that it can be looped around. The smaller one depends on how many crayons you want in there. 2 cm for each crayon plus    1 cm for the side stitch.

I used 1/2 inch wide elastic for the longer one and 1/3 inch for the shorter one.

At the center of the longer elastic mark lines 1 cm apart. Each gap between the lines is where each crayon is going to sit. So make as many slots as the crayons you have.

On the smaller elastic leaving about 1/2 cm for the starting stitch, start marking your slots 2 cm apart.

Now stitch the elastics together along the marked lines. I made a straight stitch from top to bottom, then reversed back to the top and moved over to the next line. You can trim the threads later. You get something like this...

Now make a loop of the longer elastic and stitch together the ends.

Trim of the excess thread. Insert this around a notebook cover or the whole notebook. And insert your choice of crayon or marker.
