Flower Tin Can Caddy

The past few months Big Sister has been very vocal about saving the Earth. Once the weather got better, she insisted we walk or bike to school to prevent air pollution. She helps putting away the newspapers and milk cartons in the recycle bin. And has been pointing to many things I throw away and asking if we can use them for any projects. That made me a very happy scrappy mom indeed!

So here is another tin can re-purposing we did this past week. This was also part of an end of year school gift to her teacher. A fabric covered tin can flower caddy.

Tin Can Reuse

While sorting/cleaning out my workstation table, I wanted to clear up the table space and move as much as possible to wall storage. The simplest idea was to use the moisturizer bottles turned small wall storage units. (Link). Then again I had collected enough tin cans again to put them to some good use. The last time I did anything with them was make the wind chime. (Link). I decided to use them indoors this time....

Want to make some pretty tin can wall storage? The idea is pretty simple....just let your imagination go wild!

Custom Canvas Shoes

Stay at home days are usually project days. Not my sewing projects of course. Those are done on school days! This is a kid friendly activity we did on one of those stay at home days. Convert a boring pair of white canvas shoes into custom designer kicks. Big Sister did most of the work with my supervision and now she wears her creation very proudly. She loved the end product so much that we went to the store that evening...got me a pair of white canvas shoes and made a designer pair for me as well!

Doesn't this look like fun? Here's how we did it...

DIY Party Hats

It's been a while since  I posted here. And it seems like a lot has happened since then too. Little One turned 2! And I turned, well, a year older... The last few weeks have been about celebrations, visiting family and loved ones, and the blog was kinda forgotten.

But here we are with something we made for the Little One's birthday. Big Sister and I made party hats for the birthday gal and the family from poster boards (chart paper). We then decorated them with glitter glue (of course) and glue on rhinestones.

Reuse baby food jars: Tea light candle holders

This project has been in the making for quite a while now in our household.  I have been saving up Little One's food jars. (Although, we did break a few jars while we were 'saving' them.) These little jars are quite sturdy and oh so cute, I have a hard time throwing them away, even if it is in the recycle bin. With the last batch of saved up jars we made these photo glitter globes. (Link Here). Now that we had enough to come up with a new project, I wanted to make something holiday themed as well as colorful.

So, we painted the jars and made them into tea-light candle holders/lanterns. Of course, they make decent votives, without doing anything to them. But a splash of color never hurt anybody, right?

I did experiment with a few different paints and textures before settling down on my perfect formula (which ended up to be the cheapest one too...). Grab some plain old white glue (yes! you read that right...white glue) and some of your kids' paints (I used crayola) and get ready to paint those little jars!
